One of my "must sees" when I traveled to Portugal with my husband was the oldest bookstore in the world. What a thrill for a writer! I purchased a book of poetry translated in English and the cool thing is the bookstore cashier will stamp it with an official stamp from the store. Livraria Bertrand dates all the way back to 1732, meaning that the bookshop has been open to the public for close to three centuries! Unfortunately, the original shop was actually destroyed in a devastating earthquake in 1755.

There's another bookstore across the street that's also old - 113 years.  The Portuguese love books!
